smith + james is a Los-Angeles based wedding planning + design studio. We specialize in throwing luxury, multi-day events in destinations around the world, and are known for our heavily experiential, fashion-forward approach. Our goal at smith + james is to provide our clients with an extremely high-quality level of service and negate stress from the wedding planning process.

The smith + james team is looking for a new member to fulfill a Project Management and Operations role to ensure daily activities are meeting or exceeding our clients' expectations. This position will report directly to our Studio Manager/Head of Operations and is a mostly-remote position with very flexible hours. Essentially, you can make your own schedule as long as you get your work done. We meet in our office in Long Beach, California one day a week and we travel often for weddings and events.

This is a part-time position with full-time potential for the right fit.


Your role will include:

  • Managing short and long-term projects for our clients in preparation for wedding weekends, ensuring tasks are completed on time and within deadline parameters. Some examples of this are: vendor outreach, wedding weekend scheduling (hair and makeup, family photos, guest transportation) and event day timeline creation

  • Arranging travel and accommodations for team business trips

  • Taking minutes during meetings and assigning (or handling independently) action items to s+j team members when required

  • Assisting in the organization of the team’s weekly task list

  • Managing some vendor contracts and ensuring timely payment of invoices

  • Keeping client budgets up-to-date 

  • Day-to-day meeting scheduling and s+j team calendar management 

  • Being present as event staff for wedding weekends


You are a great candidate to join our team if you:

  • Are organized, efficient, and punctual

  • Love to travel and have experience doing so 

  • Can roll-with-the-punches when flights get canceled or we have to sprint to the train station. We are a heavy destination-based company (both domestic and international) so you will be racking up A LOT of frequent-flier miles. 

  • Are detail-oriented

  • Have great communication/people skills - both written and verbal

  • Love a spreadsheet and are proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets

  • We mean it, you must really love a spreadsheet, not be pretending to love one

  • Have event experience (preferred but not required)

  • Have experience in an operations role (preferred but not required)


Salaried part-time position with potential to move into a full-time position in the very near future.
